Shri Natraj School of Dance, founded by artistic director Kusum Sharma in 2005, is a school whose mission is to encourage excellence in the practice of Bharatanatyam, Kathak and Indian Folk dance in the Houston. With 6 branches and over 100 students in Houston, it is one of the prime schools teaching various forms of traditional dance forms. Kusum Sharma's laurels extend beyond teaching, and she has received rave reviews for the exemplary original mythological and contemporary dance dramas including 'Ram leela, "Durga", ''Krishna leela,' 'Mughal-e-Azam', 'Meera', ‘Amrapali’ among many others. In 2014 Kusum worked with Houston Grand Opera on “River of Light” where she enacted mini-Ramleela and played the role of Sita. Kusum has featured in several community newspaper and Fox 26 Houston TV channel. Kusum Sharma is also founder of non-profit Kalakriti Performing Arts (www.kalakritiusa.org) which was founded to promote dance art forms and Indian culture in USA.
